Ukrainian producer Konstantyn Isaev AKA Volta Cab steps up to the Hypercolour mantle with a killer EP of breakbeats inna classic style. Previous releases on Illusion Recordings, Undertones, ISM and Morris Audio have really shone through, so it’s a pleasure to have him on board the good ship Hypercolour….
‘Apache Goes Wild’ opens up the triple pack, a stuttering broken beat and discordant pads sounds like it’s about to break out into some kind of classic 90s drum & bass jam, but reigns it in for a fabulous swinging breakbeat cut, chopping and changing in a highly inventive way, very funky.
‘Back To The Top’ is another slab of prime time breakbeat, all heavy hitting piano stabs and clipped female vox, pumpin’ & jumpin’! Closing the EP is ‘Fantazia’, a real heady and understated track, the female vox really warming up the rolling 4/4 breaks and cold stabs.
